Spare Room Progress: Mirrored Closet and Roman Shades

This old room has come a long way since I posted about it last. It’s clean, bright and ready to be furnished! The first big change is the addition of roman shades. I still plan to add colorful curtains, but these will lay behind them in place of vertical blinds. I got these beauties at JCPenny of all places; they were only $34.99 which I thought was a HUGE steal! You can shop them HERE.

Roman Shades

The addition of shades is such a huge upgrade from these terrifying window coverings of Christmas past. My poor Drebby…how could I subject him to such dreadful surroundings? He looks sad and confused.

The second big change are the closet doors. Remember these beat up beauties?

They got a facelift with a (cue Oprah voice) brand new pair of MIRRORED DOOOOORS!

Here’s the room from the other side…

I understand these changes seem pretty basic, but they’re such an improvement from this!

So what’s next? If you read my previous post you know that we’ve been up in the air about what to do with this room from day one. Our plan all along has been to let the universe determine what we do with this space (if you know what I mean). At the moment we have room for 2 guests in our office, so there’s no real rush to get a bed in here. We also have a blow up air mattress that’s quite comfy if we need to sleep more than our office has room for.

Here’s my updated list:

  • Caulk and clean beadboard
  • Add top and bottom moldings
  • Hang roman shades
  • Hang curtains
  • Install mirrored closet doors
  • Paint room door
  • Figure out a temporary bed situation for guests (We’ll use the queen air mattress we have if necessary)
  • Replace door knob
  • Find a cozy area rug and furniture pieces that can transition
