Last weekend my husband and I threw an impromptu summer barbeque. Usually impromptu and I don’t mix; but I’m learning there are tons of options for making quick and easy entertaining look good (real good)!
I wanted to do something that wouldn’t keep my hubby manning the grill all day, so I decided on a hot dog bar! I’ve never tried it before and it was a huge hit! I had a blast searching the grocery store for creative toppings and spooning them into mason jars for easy serving. I used chalkboard stickers to label all the ingredients.
The only prep work was making a pot of chili and throwing our Hebrew National All-Beef Franks on the grill. I also had a handful of peaches from the farmer’s market, so I sprayed them with a little nonstick coconut oil spray and grilled those as well.
I’ve always loved hot dogs, but I guess I never realized how versatile they are! We added everything from global inspired toppings like sriracha kraut and pico de gallo, to all-American sides like coleslaw and corn chip crumbles! Yes, I said corn chip crumbles. The added crunch was to die for! Sweet toppings weren’t off limits either; we tried diced mango for a delicious sweet and salty combo.
We had so much fun creating unique flavor combos and trying each other’s masterpieces. My claim to fame was the “All-American Dog”: a Hebrew National All-Beef Frank topped with relish, coleslaw and mustard. I also have to give a special shout out to the “Mexican Chili Dog” my husband created: a hot dog topped with chili con carne, avocado, jalapeños and cheese. Honorable mentions go to the “Sweet and Spicy” which was topped with mango and sriracha kraut, and the “Texas Straw Hat Dog”: a Hebrew National All-Beef Frank covered in chili, cheese and corn chip crumbles.
Oh, and how about those grilled peaches….
Here’s a full list of toppings at our bar:
Craft Beer Kraut
Crushed Corn Chips
Chili Con Carne

This summer, I’m thrilled to be partnering with my favorite hot dogs, Hebrew National, to share some more of my favorite recipes and entertaining tips. Would you host a hot dog bar? Which toppings would you put out?
“What makes a Hebrew National kosher hot dog premium? It’s all about what makes the cut (And what doesn’t). We’re choosy about what goes into our franks – we use only premium cuts of 100% kosher beef from the front half of the cow and then choose the best from that. No artificial flavors, colors, fillers or by-products. When your hot dog is Kosher, that’s a hot dog you can trust! For more summer fun with Hebrew National, visit facebook.com/hebrewnational.”
