7 Tips For Healthy Momming

As a mom I feel like there are so many things I have zero control over: when I sleep, shower, work…pee. I’ve found the one thing I do have control of is my health, and when I hold myself to a handful of rules, both baby and I are more happy. I may not have time to nurture myself with pedicures and facials like I used to, and I gave up on going to the gym a year ago- but committing to healthy food, exercise and plenty of fresh air make the days so much sweeter.

Here are 7 things that keep me on track when everything else feels like chaos:

Walk Instead Of Driving

I have 2 grocery stores and a park all under a half mile from my house. I try to walk to all 3 and never drive, unless I need more than I can fit under the stroller. I end up going to the store about 3 times a week instead of 1, but honestly Max enjoys it so much more than getting pulled in and out of the carseat- and it forces me to get exercise. Even if you don’t have a store near you, find reasons to walk. The fresh air is so recharging.

Sign Up For Mommy/Baby Exercise

I got this advice from a friend, and it’s become one of the most valuable pieces of knowledge I’ve received. Plan activities with other parents and babies. Get active together. We go to baby gym twice a week, and although (much like the normal gym) there are days I just don’t feel like getting us together to go, we always leave happy. Facebook is a huge asset: search the name of your city and then “moms group” and you’ll be surprised how many organizations and activities pop up.

Pick Activites That Are Outdoors

This is huge for your mental health! Inevitably there are days that feel just plain LONG, and frustrating…and you feel like you’ve been playing with the same handful of toys for decades. Every day (if weather permits), commit to getting a good hour of fresh air. Sometimes we go to the play area at the park, and others I set Max down in a big empty field of grass and we just roam. Blow bubbles, watch ducks- there are so many things to do outside and they’re pretty much all free!

If You Don’t Want Baby To Eat It- Don’t Buy It!

I have to admit, when I was nursing I ate whatever I wanted. I was loosing weight so rapidly, that I wasn’t too discerning with my food choices (I know that’s a problem I will NEVER have again!). Now that Max is eating real food, my husband and I make a concerted effort to only eat things we would be proud of him eating too. And because he begs for anything on our forks…it keeps us very honest. There are absolutely days where we want hearty, comfort food- and of course we know our son isn’t going to live his life on kale pouches and bananas- so we try to create those recipes with fresh, organic ingredients.

Pack Snacks

I find when I get to the “red zone” in the hunger department I make BAD choices. When I’m packing a sippy cup and snacks for the baby, I do the same for myself; usually things we can share like fruit, veggies and cheese. It’s so easy to power through a day without eating and drinking enough- so when you feed your little one, feed yourself!

Yesterday I wrote about my obsession with the new Naked Cold Pressed Juices ; they’re one of my favorite grab-and-go snacks!

Each Naked Cold Pressed Juice is made with ready-to-eat, high quality fruits and vegetables that are cold-pressed right into the bottle. They are so refreshing, especially the Cool Pineapple- which is my FAVE!  They’re great for mommas because they contain no added sugar, no preservatives and are verified by the Non GMO Project- that means no crash! They come in five delicious flavors: Lively Carrot, Bright Greens, Hearty Greens, Bold Beet, and Cool Pineapple (get the full run down in this post).

I love these juices so much because they keep me hydrated and fill me up with healthy fruits and veggies.

Naked Cold Pressed Juices are available now on the West Coast (I found mine at Target) and are rolling out nationwide soon.

When all else fails, turn on the radio (we love Toddler Dance on Pandora) and DANCE! Dancing gets you moving and makes you smile! Watching my little diaper butted baby dance might be my favorite thing in the world. If your little one isn’t walking yet, but them in a carrier or sling and dance with them- they love it!
