Kitchen Progress: Bring On The Countertops!

We’re plugging right along on this kitchen renovation. I think being 7 months pregnant, in full-on nesting mode makes me a wonderful slave driver project manager! To see where we started, click HERE and HERE.

We still have to:

  • Install backsplash (it’s already chosen and goes in this week!)
  • Add hardware to cabinets
  • Find affordable window treatments or DIY our own (colorful roman shades)
  • Buy a long rug for the sink/dishwasher area
  • Purchase bar stools
  • Find art for the bar area

But all of that is the fun part!

Here’s what’s changed in the last couple of days. Lighting for good pictures is still difficult without shades on our windows…forgive me.

View from the bar area.

New sink and faucet.

In this pic you can see our two new pendant lights over the bar; right behind that dog that likes to follow me around all day (I’ve been encouraging him to get a hobby).

I love our new sink and faucet. What a glorious upgrade from our yellow monster! Our electrician suggested putting the garbage disposal button in the counter as opposed to on the wall for safety reasons, and I’m glad we did. It’s a cool little feature, and we won’t be putting our wet hands on the wall.

We gained a massive amount of counter space by continuing our countertop right around to the bar. This gets me so excited to entertain! Is it Super Bowl yet?

Im really excited to see how the area behind the stove shapes up once the backsplash is in. It’s ridiculous how much more expensive the backless ovens are- but this was one splurge I really pushed with my (extremely patient) husband.

Here’s the new refrigerator. I HATED buying cases of bottled water for the last 2 years. Having an ice maker and filtered water is a huge luxury to us! I’m still getting used to the pull out freezer, but I’m glad I made the switch. The french doors allow a ton of room for cakes, large casseroles etc.

Hardware is going to make a huge difference on these bright white cabinets. We’re going with a brushed nickel to match our appliances. We toyed with the idea of going dark to match the light fixtures….but I just couldn’t commit.

A closer look at our pendant lights over the bar.

The bar is still missing one little panel. Somehow it got lost in the mix. That will go in on the same day the cabinet guy comes back to install the moldings under our cabinets.

Fingers crossed the holidays don’t slow down this lightening fast progress. Our backsplash will be up by the end of the week, and then we just need to get all the final touches done. I’m really excited to buy art, barstools and window treatments- but I’m one of those people that likes to do things one step at a time. I want to see the backsplash up before I make any decisions about accent colors. I would share the backsplash with you…but I want the last reveal post to be a fun surprise.

I promise to include a full source list in my next post. I feel like it’s best to have it all in one place. Now that the nursery isn’t full of our kitchen contents, I can actually start getting a space ready for the little guy. I have to admit, these projects have made the last leg of my pregnancy go a lot faster- that’s a good thing since I’m so anxious to meet him! Keep an eye out for more updates later in the week!
