We celebrated our little dinosaur’s FIRST birthday a couple weeks ago, and I wanted to share the details! Since our house is a little tiny for a bunch of wild kids, and the weather was uncertain, we decided to celebrate at a local baby gym- and oh-what-fun it was!
Here is a collage of the inspo:
And here’s the party!
The invite by MolsDesigns on Etsy.
A business sized card in every envelope asking for something special for Max’s time capsule! I’m so happy we did this. We got so many special letters, pictures and keepsakes.
Fun little dinos in birthday hats partied on all the tables.
This particular dinosaur had to be shared. My husband and I laughed so hard at this dude in his big ol’ hat. This is our life now!
Wanted to add one little tip since it happened to me. For the fruit skewers I used candy sticks because I wanted them to be kid friendly with no sharp edges. They were totally fine, but the paper started to come apart a bit because of the juice. If I had to do it again I’d use wood and just cut off the sharp edges.
We tried to keep all the snacks as healthy as possible since we were ordering pizza for lunch. The kids loved the veggie cups!
When I saw that the party area already had streamers and balloons up I was so bummed because I had a strong green, black, white and red vibe going- but it actually ended up working! You’ll notice on the far right of the food table, I put out a little basket of puffs and pouches. It was a last minute decision that the baby/toddler parents really loved!
Dino tails on all the chairs for the “big kids”. They went wild for these, and were so excited they got to take them home. I found them on Oriental Trading Company.
I swear he smiled all day, but this is the best pick I could find of his shirt! I found it on BeachTownBaby on Etsy. I was super impressed with the quality and customer service.
I bought this banner for Max’s 1 year photos, but it was in a totally different color scheme. I wanted to re-use it (since I was ashamed of paying for one and not making it!), so I just swapped out the fabric to match the dino party.
My mom made Max’s cake, and I gave her these choices (click here) from the Baby Led Weaning site. Because there’s no sugar, etc in the cake it turned out with little holes in it, which was perfect for the dinosaur theme! I told her to only frost between the layers, and I think it ended up looking really cute.
I made pre-historic dirt cups instead of cake for the kiddos. I figured it would be easier at the gym. The kids loved them!
I tried not to include pics of the kids, just to respect their privacy- but I love these tail shots!
Before I was a parent I always said I would never go all-out for a first birthday party. I didn’t really understand the point when a baby is so young. Although we didn’t go CRAZY, I realize why it’s such a special day now. Not only are you celebrating your child, you’re also celebrating getting through the first year of parenthood (which let’s face it, is HARD) and you’re surrounded in the village that helped you do it! This was truly the perfect day. We love you to the moon, our little Max.
