Products To Nourish Your Summer Hair

It has been a HOT ONE here in SoCal! My hair has lived in a permanent bun, pounded by the sun and soaked in chlorine (glamorous, right?) Here are a few tips to beat summer hair woes with the help of some of my favorite beauty buys. Some of them may seem a bit pricey, but a little goes a long way with all of these products and they’ll last- I promise!

SOLUTION: Saturate your hair in a conditioner or oil before heading into the water. Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil ($48; is loaded with Vitamin E and essential fatty acids to condition, nourish, and coat the hair without weighing it down. I’ve mentioned Josie’s products in the past, and I can’t tell you enough what a quality line she has for skin and hair.

– For chlorine, wet your hair with fresh water before jumping in so your hair doesn’t soak up as much of the pool water and rinse RIGHT after!

– Use Vitamin C because it neutralizes chlorine. There are some sprays, such as Jasmine Night Conditioning Spray ($63;  that have vitamin C in them to specifically remove the residue left on hair by pool water.

SOLUTION: Make a DIY spritzer: Mix a half cup of sparkling water, a half cup of apple cider vinegar (if you don’t have any on hand it’s a cure all!), and the juice from a quarter of a lemon into a spray bottle and apply to dry hair from roots to ends until the hair is fully saturated. Massage the mixture into your scalp for a few minutes as it absorbs, then rinse well!

– Follow up with a clarifying shampoo and your favorite hair mask. Philip B Anti- Flake Relief Shampoo ($39; provides instant relief and Katira Hair Masque ($44; deep treats while fighting humidity.

SOLUTION: Use products with UV protection built right in and to protect your color from fading due to sunshine, whip up a homemade concoction by diluting your favorite lotion or sunscreen with a little water in a spray bottle and spritzing your strands. Try Organic Pharmacy Cellular Protection Sun Screen ($69; for UVA and UVB protection! I also love using a little of my son’s baby sunscreen since it’s so light and gentle.

I hope everyone’s having a wonderful summer!!
